Father's Day 2013

When I first met Barry back in the fall of 2005 in accounting class one of the very first things I noticed about him was that every day when he came to class he was wearing camo of some sort.  Every. Day.  It was on his backpack, or his hat, or the koozie on his Dr. Pepper, sometimes his shirt, sometimes all of the above.  It was somewhere.

Of course I don't have picture from that semester because some random girl taking a picture of you in class would be creepy.  This was pre-iPhone days.  Pre cell phone camera days actually.  We are old.  Anyways......

My point is that, it is so fun for me to see this camo-wearing "guys'-guy" with this super-duper girly girl baby.  I never could have imagined that this cute guy I sat next to in accounting every day would one day be my husband and some day be sitting on the floor covered in baby dolls putting bows and tights on our baby girl.  Funny how things work out!

This year on Father's Day, Sawyer and I took Barry out for doughnuts Saturday morning.

We spent the day doing things around the house and eventually met up with my family to go to the Skeeter's game.

What more could a guy want than 3 daughters (Brie was out of town) and 3 grand-daughters!?!  Thank God for great son-in-laws.  Sawyer is a major Grandpa's Girl.  If my dad or Barry's dad is around, no one else seems to exist.

I love to watch both of our dads with Sawyer.  They turn into these giant softies and oblige her every request.  Barry and I always talk about how the grandkids seem to get away with so much more than we could have ever gotten close to!  But, it is supposed to be that way.  We ended the Father's Day weekend with some family time in the back yard.

Sawyer is one blessed little girl!  As am I.  So thankful to celebrate my dad, my father-in-law and Sawyer's wonderful daddy.

Stuffed Bell Peppers

When we went to the lake a couple weeks ago, we split up the meal responsibilities.  Cara and Derek had dinner one night and made some awesome stuffed bell peppers.  Tonight, I tried out my own version!  And took no pictures...they wouldn't have been good even if I did take them.  You aren't missing anything.

I took this one...you get the idea.  Instagram makes me feel like a better photog.

What you will need:

4 large green bell peppers
1 lb ground meat (We used venison tonight, beef is good too.  Turkey would be good as well.)
1-2 cups beans (A can would work, we had some that we had made over the weekend, so I just added a couple large spoon fulls)
1 can low sodium corn
A couple handfulls of fresh spinach
1-2 cups salsa (depending on how much you like)
Reduced fat cheese for topping

Preheat oven to 350.  Cut the tops off and remove the insides of bell peppers.  Bake for 30-45 minutes - until they are soft.

Meanwhile, brown meat.  Add beans, corn, spinach and salsa.

Once mixed together, fill bell peppers with mixture.  Top with shredded cheese.  Cover with foil and bake for 15-20 minutes - until cheese is melted.

And, that's it!  The possibilities are endless - you could add rice, different salsas, more veggies, less veggies (don't recommend that, though!), taco seasoning, ranch powder...

Sidenote: this made a ton of stuffing.  I probably only used about half of it.  So, into the freezer it goes for an easy weeknight meal later on.

ENJOY!

Lori also enjoyed a very delicious dinner tonight courtesy of Sawyer, in case you were wondering.

Boening Family Vacation 2013

As I was getting ready to write this post, I went back and read about our trip last year.  Crazy what a difference a year makes!!

We had a blast at the lake once again.  There was lots of fishing.

Lots of conversing among cousins.

And lots of jetskiing - or "yetski".  Sawyer wasn't too sure about it, but as long as the jet ski was moving she was ok, when we stopped she didn't like it so much.  It grew on her over the weekend.

The kayak was more her speed.  She loved daddy's boat.

She absolutely did not love wearing a "yacket."

Her favorite thing was playing with her cousins.  That was my favorite thing too.  I love watching them all play together - they love each other so much and that makes me so happy!

They were really busy chopping down the tree with their "kayaks" - a.k.a. sticks.

It was a very relaxing weekend with lots of quality family time!

Already looking forward to next year!

When we were packing up to leave on Sunday the "big" kids decided to sing a song for Logan...

18 Months

A year and a half.  Wow.

Where has the time gone.  I can't believe she is so much more of a toddler now, I think being a "baby" is officially over.

This month's photo shoot had lots of distractions.

We had to take a dinner and bath break and resumed later with much better results.  18-month-old-chatter-box Sawyer would like to introduce Pots & Pie.

Formerly known as Chops & Paci.  She would also like to introduce her BFF, Row-reeeeeee.

Formerly known as Lori.  She just thinks Lori is the greatest.  The jury is still out on what Row-ree thinks.  Sawyer's fashion sense continues to be stellar.  She is always bringing me socks, shoes, "gasses," bows and whatever else random things she can find that she needs to be wearing.

Crocs & socks.  For bed.  Really?

Never mind that it was May - winter hat is totally necessary.  Two winter hats are in fact necessary, notice the second one on the ground.  Don't notice my laundry pile in the background.

Her fav gasses.

2 headbands, no pants.  Sure.

Former dance recital costume belt that she found somewhere (??) as a headband.  Why not?  I blame Brie-Brie.

Mismatched socks.  I blame Brie-Brie for this too.

Bows on bows on bows.  The more the merrier.  I appreciate her creativity.  Sawyer changed classes again at the beginning of May.  She is now in the Spanish immersion class.

They speak Spanish to her all day every day - she seems to be loving it.  I am loving it.  Most days when we leave school she will ask to walk as soon as we get outside.  She goes straight the the curb, sits down and makes her request of the day: picture, milk or snack.  Depends on the day.

I usually only oblige to the picture request, but she still tries for the milk and snack request often.  Basically the only things she requests to eat are "snacks."  She is still on her vegetarian diet, a diet which mostly consists of cheese, bananas, peanut butter, fruit, beans, yogurt and snacks - the random squeezes, fruit bars, fruit snacks, etc that I keep in her diaper bag.  She also refuses to be fed.

Must only feed herself.  It doesn't always work out that well - especially with yogurt.  Bad news for BJ & Kasey's bar stool.  Good news for their dog.

The lady at the deli counter at HEB must have sensed Sawyer's love for cheese, this made for a very pleasant grocery shopping trip for all.

She did have a skirt on at the grocery store.  I don't let the no pants thing occur in public.  I don't appreciate her creativity THAT much.  Since the weather got HOT in May, the swimming started.  We went over to BJ & Kasey's for the first swim of the summer.

She was mostly interested in drinking the water.

Not at all interested in the slide.

We also visited the splash pad in my parents' neighborhood.  We thought she would love it.  We thought wrong.  She found the tiniest little spout and stuck her finger in it.  Pure adventurism.

She does however love her cousins, Blake & Blake, Coowa, Eby, and Yogurt/Boy a.k.a. Logan.

And finally, my favorite photo of the month.  She LOVES her daddy.  Wasn't super sure about the horse.
